                          A 3D-Printed Bicycle

                       26 A group of Dutch students, along with an Amsterdam-based
                          company called MX3D, created a 3D-printed bicycle frame in

                          2016. MX3D’s special printers have several arms that can eject
                          metal and resin, a plastic substance, at the same time—in
                          midair—which means that large objects—like a bike—are

                          possible to make. Most 3D printers are only capable of making
                          small items, which may then be fastened together. But this bike
                          frame was made as one solid piece.

                       27 Upon completion, the students took the bike for a ride—it
                          glided through the streets with ease. While this project was seen

                          mostly as a way to demonstrate the MX3D printing process, the
                          idea of being able to produce a custom bike is exciting for both
                          athletes and anyone who depends on a bike for transportation,

                          exercise, or leisure.

                                                         This Light Rider bicycle was printed
                                                         using a 3D technique.
