2. How would you describe your skills at engaging your audience?
Sample answer:
I would say that I’m average since I don’t think I bore my audience but I don’t get
them on their feet as well. I try to keep my talk interesting with the tone of my voice,
gestures and eye contact. I think I still need some practice because I’m not a hundred
percent confident when taking the spotlight.
3. Can you describe someone whose ability to engage the audience you ad-
mire?
Sample answer:
I greatly admire one of my previous teacher’s ability to engage the class. Her pleasant
speaking voice, her contagious energy and her lively movement all serve to keep us
interested. She tries to include situations that the whole class can relate to so it makes
everyone feel closer and more comfortable.
1. Your friend is delivering a speech in a few days. He/she wanted to have feed-
back from a layman since she will be speaking to an audience who isn’t very
familiar with her field.
Sample answer:
Shai, I really liked your presentation. You appeared confident so I also feel more in-
clined to listen to you. Your delivery seems spontaneous; I commend you for practi-
cally learning your speech by heart. The tone and energy in your voice also makes
your delivery more interesting. Perhaps, you could walk around a little bit since you
seem a little distant and stiff standing still like that. Maybe, you could also use more
emphatic gestures.
2. You are the head of your department and more experienced in making pre-
sentations and talks. The branch supervisor asks you to brief your subordi-
nates on how to be effective in relaying their message to the audience. You
are talking about engaging the audience.
Sample answer:
Engaging the audience is important because our business is dependent on how well
we are able to relay our message to our listeners. First, we should take into account to
whom we are speaking and tailor the way we present our message. Think about what
would be relevant and useful to the audience so that they will be more inclined to lis-
ten. Be natural, spontaneous and confident. Have energy; a powerful and lively voice,
and proper gestures make the speech more interesting for the audience. Develop
your own style and aim to improve every time.
