Facts about U.S. Latinos for Hispanic Heritage Month | Pew Research Center
While college enrollment has been in decline, the number of Hispanic students
enrolled in college continues to rise, making them only one of two demographic groups
that saw an increase in college attendance, according to the National Center for
Education Statistics. Since 2000, the Latino population attending college has nearly
doubled.
About 70% of Hispanic undergraduates in higher education come from families in the
bottom half of earners according to federal data analyzed by the lobbying group
American Council on Education. Further, nearly half of Hispanic students are the first in
their family to go to college, according to data analyzed by Excelencia.
While just under 20% of undergraduates on a national level are Hispanic, just under 5%
of the full-time professors are Hispanic.
