B. Ventrogluteal: Place the palm of the left hand on right greater trochanter so that the
index finger points toward the anterosuperior iliac spine; spread first and middle fingers
to form a V; injection site is the middle of the “V”.
Anatomic landmark to locate the ventroglutial site are:
Greater trochanter,
Anterior superior iliac spine
Iliac crest
c. Vastus lateralis: Identify greater trochanter; place hand at lateral femoral condyle;
injection site is the middle third of anterior lateral aspect.
It is the site of choice for intramuscular injection for infants because there are no major
blood vessels or nerves in the area.
D. Deltoid: Locate the lateral side of the humerus from two to three finger widths below
the acromion process in adults or one finger width below the acromion process in
children.
