10. Insert the catheter 6 to 8cm. In to the colon.
                   11. Allow the solution to turn in very slowly and remove the catheter for the return flow.
                   12. Repeat the same procedure until the colon is clear.
                   13. Give patient abdominal pads to hold over colostomy during the expulsion of gas.
                   14. Withdraw the tube and leave a large receiver as long as necessary.
                   15. While the solution is being expelled remove the Equipment.
                   16. Return to the patient at intervals to assist if needed.
                   17. Clean the area with soap and water (depending on the condition and duration of
                       colostomy), apply Vaseline gauze to prevent irritation, and complete dressing.
                   18. Provide good ventilation after treatment is finished.
                   19. Record time, result, and effect on the patient.


                        N.B:
                       Give the irrigation soon after breakfast to establish the quality of evacuation through
                       the colostomy.
                       If the area around the colostomy is excessively irrigated apply
                       An ointment such as zinc oxide.
                       Protect the bed adequately during the Procedure to prevent the soiling of bedclothes.
                       Regulate the rate of flow to prevent discomfort.
                       If the colostomy is permanent the patient must be taught as early as possible.
                       If possible the same nurse should assist the patient with this
                       Procedure for several successive days.
                       This saves the patient embarrassment and enables the nurse to give appropriate
                       encouragement, reassurance, and assistance without having to repeat his difficulties and
                       problem to the patient.
                       If possible, colostomy irrigation should be made in the bathroom.

                       4.12.5 Passing flatus tube (rectal tube)
                        Equipment
                   1.  A tray with the following Equipment
                   2.  Flatus tube
                   3.  Glass or plastic connector
                   4.  Tuber tubing about 1 mater
                   5.  Large bowel of water
                   6.  Mackintosh to protect the bed
                   7.  The container of gauze mops or squires of old linen
                   8.  Receiver for used tubes
                   9.  Basin or paper bag for used mop
