10. Lubricant
                       Procedure
                   1.  Explain the Procedure to the patient
                   2.  The patient lies in the same position as for an enema
                   3.  The rectal tube is lubricated and inserted 6-8 cm. In to the rectum.
                   4.  It is then taped in place, end the free end of the tube is put in the large bowel of water
                       placed near the patient's buttocks. A rectal tube is usually left for half an hour.
                   5.  After the tube has been removed the patient should get any needed assistance.
                   6.  The approximate amount (large, small) of flatus that was expelled is noted. Usually, the
                       patient can describe this.
                   7.  Besides, the nurse can palate his abdomen to not any change since a patient who has
                       flatus usually his a hard, distended abdomen.
                   8.  Record all observations.

                 4.13 Urethral catheterization
                       Objective: At the end of the session, the trainees will be able to:
                   1.  Insert indwelling and plain urinary catheter for male and female clients
                   2.  Perform bladder irrigation
                   3.  Identify types of enema solution with possible advantage and disadvantage
                   4.  Provide care for colostomy appliance
                   5.  Manage colostomy irrigation

                         Definition: It is the removal of urine from the bladder using a catheter
                   A.  Female catheterization
                        Purpose
                       To empty the bladder in case of retention of urine, occurring as a postoperative
                       complication
                        In an obstruction due to the blockage of the urethra, therefore causing stricture
                       Where the retention is due to injury of the spinal cord
                       To obtain a sterile specimen of urine for pathological examination
                       To ensure that the bladder is empty before an abdominal or pelvic operation or
                       abdominal paracentesis
                       To keep an incontinent patient dry
                       To avoid contamination after an operation of the vaginal and perineum
                       To empty the bladder before irrigation or instillation
                       To determine if residual urine is present in the bladder
                       Equipment
                   1.  Two rubber catheters of different size
                   2.  A bowl for antiseptic lotion for cleaning
                   3.  A bowl for sterile swabs and gauze to separate the vulva
