Mother and little Daniel went to Shoprite and Daniel see the
inviting candy display;
· Daniel: I want some Candy Mummy
· Mummy: No honey, not today
· Daniel: But why? I want some candy, am hungry.
· Mummy: it is already close to lunch and you have had enough
candy for today. And besides is not food, I will get you snacks.
· Daniel: But I want some more, I want some candy!!
· Mummy: No Daniel. Now come along, do you hear me?
And so goes the battle, Daniel proceeds to flop on the floor crying,
kicking his feet and grasping a handful of candy. Finally in
desperation and because people are looking, Mummy says; oh all
right, have some candy but come on am in a hurry. Daniel has
manipulated his mother; He has also learned that if he makes a scene
in public, he can get his way.
Not every mother will tolerate such and act the same way to such
stubbornness, so children learn quickly what it takes to get what they
want. Some mothers in that situation can pout and whine, others may
spank, scold or bat their eyelashes but if the parents give in the
results are the same
In any case, these children are not learning happy obedience, or
submission, nor respect or honour to what is right. Instead, they are
learning to get what they want in their own way and to act selfishly
towards their parents' wishes and wisdom.
Proverbs 22: 15 ''Foolishness is
bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction
shall drive it far from him.'’
