AT THE FOREFRONT
DIAMOND SABER 2022 by Brenda Cohen
I was able to observe this year’s Military Pay portion of the Diamond Saber Exercise which was
conducted at Ft Dix, NJ for the first time. This Army Reserve-led exercise incorporates participation
from all components and joint services, as it prepares finance and comptroller Soldiers on the
warfighting functions of funding the force, payment support, disbursing operations, accounting,
fiscal stewardship, auditability, and data.
Kudos to Ft Campbell’s Director, Mr. Stenson and his team who spearheaded the Military Pay
Operations (Instructed Active Component training) and was assisted by Ft Bliss’ Director, Mr. Bendy
and his team (Instructed Reserve Component training) as Ft Stewart’s Director Mrs McKenzie and
her team shadowed in preparation for next year’s exercise. What an awesome job they did in training
the National Guard, Reserve units and 82nd Finance Battalion’s Command team and Soldiers, while
setting us up for success next year. Both teams provided excellent instructional aids and knowledge
during this two-week exercise. Each Soldier was presented by Mr. Stenson with a certificate of
completion worth 80 CET hours. The Soldiers were visited and briefed by the Finance and
Comptroller Command team and USAFMCOM Commander COL Jennings was present as well. I ran
into quite a few friends I hadn’t seen in a while to include my brother Cofer, who was there with his
teammates instructing accounting operations, MAJ Camacho who was there with his reserve unit
based out of Ft Lee, my fellow die-hard Cowboy fan (yes, I said it) CSM McLaughlin and 1SG Claye
there to support their troops.
