AT THE FOREFRONT
(NEW) 2022 ARMY PACIFIC FINANCE AND COMPTROLLER
SYMPOSIUM.
The 2022 Army Pacific Finance and Comptroller Symposium was held 25-27 July 2022. The event
theme was Resourcing the Way Ahead Across the INDO-PACIFIC, the World’s Most Consequential
Theater. This theme captures the philosophy of the United States Army Pacific Commander, General
Charles A. Flynn, who currently sees the Pacific as the “world’s most consequential theater.”
Finance and Comptroller professionals from across the Pacific and the continental United States
attended the event both in-person and virtually. The intent of the symposium was to bring together
all the major stakeholders to discuss and address the most challenging issues affecting the Finance
and Comptroller Corps today. This included the impacts of restructuring due to the current FDU Jr.,
the resourcing of priorities in a global environment with increased near peer threats, military and
civilian personnel shortages across the enterprise, developing Counter-Threat Finance Capabilities,
and maintaining relationships with other members of the fiscal triad such as JAG and contracting.
Participants included leaders from ASA FM&C, the Army Budget Office, USASOC, USAFMCOM, the
Finance and Comptroller School, HRC Finance and Comptroller Branch, and various FC Elements
from across the Pacific. For more information and to view photos, see the storyboard at

18TH FINANCE SUPPORT CENTER (FISC) OPERATIONAL
HIGHLIGHTS.
The 18th FISC conducted a combined pre-deployment Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRE) with the
82nd Finance Battalion (FIBN) at Fort Knox, KY on 24-29 July 2022. The 18th FISC is preparing to
execute split operations as the Senior Theater Finance Support Center in the Middle East while
maintaining support to the USARCENT G8 accounting mission predominantly from home
station. The USAFMCOM Operational Support Team (OST) functioned as external evaluators
assessing the units on their aptitude to perform their technical mission while deployed. The OST
evaluated the units’ abilities to meet their standards for training proficiency and prepare for Multi
Domain Operations during Large Scale Combat Operations. Months of rigorous training led to the
82nd FIBN gaining “T” ratings in several areas and the 18th FISC achieving a rare 100% clean sheet
for all five Mission Essential Tasks (METs) evaluated. For more information and to view photos, see
