Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
A bend is used to join together two pieces of rope temporarily.
Although most bends are only suitable for joining together ropes of
the same size, there is at least one suitable for ropes of differing
sizes (see page 113). Bends made in very fine line may prove
difficult to untie.
