Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices

      Double sheet bend

If there is any substantial variation of rope size
then use the double sheet bend. Made with
the thinner of the two pieces of rope, the

extra turn in the double sheet bend makes a
iot of difference. The extra turn stops any
      slipping, or the knot collapsing.

1 Make a sheet bend, then carry on and
make a second pass right round the bight

with the working end of the second piece
         of rope.
      2 The finished knot.

                                                            Slipped sheet bend
By tucking a bight of rope rather than an end,

a quick release version of the sheet bend is
made. As with any slipped version of a knot,
care should be taken to ensure that the knot
is properly formed with the slip loop jammed

                                                            in place.
