Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices

        Double fisherman’s knot

Ideal for slippery' line, this version of the
fisherman's knot is sometimes called the
grapevine knot or the barrel knot. The

overhand knots of the fisherman’s knot are
replaced with double overhand knots. This
makes a very neat, almost beautiful knot.

1 With the first rope make a double
overhand knot round the body of the
            second rope.

2 Make a double overhand knot round the
body of the first rope; pull tight and slide
           together.

        3 The finished knot.

        Half-slipped fisherman’s knot

By replacing one of the overhand knots with
a slipped overhand knot it will be much easier

to untie, but as with all slip knots you should
be certain that the knot has been set properly
and that there is no likelihood of the slipped

        end being pulled by accident.

4 Make one of the overhand knots a slipped

overhand knot, the second overhand knot
           plain.
