1 Tie a figure-of-
eight knot

loosely in the
rope, leaving
enough rope to

make the loop
and to double
the knot.

2 Tuck the
working end
back on itself
following the

path round
behind the
standing part.

3 Bring the
working end
down through

the figure-of-
eight to
Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
continue

doubling the
original knot.
4 Bring up and
out of the figure-

of-eight knot,
which is now
completely

doubled.
5 The finished
knot.
