Single Bowline in the Bight



                                                                      In many ways this loop is both
                                                                      a variation on the bowline and

                                                                      a variation on the figure-of-
                                                                      eight loop. The strain can only

                                                                       be taken in one direction, but it
                                                                      is very useful if you have a very

                                                                      long rope and you wish to
                                                                      apply strain along its length.



                                                                       1 Pull out a bight and fold it away
                                                                          from the final direction of pull.
                                                                      2 Bring the bight over then under

                                                                          the part of rope that is to be
                                                                          pulled, leaving a loop with one
                                                                          side doubled.

                                                                      3 Put the bight down through the
                                                                          loop.
                                                                      4 The final knot.
