Figure-of-Eight Knot



                                                                                                Very simple and

                                                                                                quick to tie, this
                                                                                                       knot is far

                                                                                                  superior to the
                                                               overhand knot, being both a little bulkier

                                                yet far easier to untie even after a strain has been put
                                                    on the knot. It makes an ideal stopper and is used
                                                       universally by yachtsmen to prevent their ropes

                                                        pulling through blocks, eyebolts, and fairleads.

             1 Make a crossing turn with the working

                end passing under the standing part of
                the rope and then bring the working end
                over the standing part.
             2 Now tuck the working end up through the

                 loop from behind, forming a figure of
                 eight. Pull tight.

             3 The finished knot.
