Figure-of-Eight Knot
Very simple and
quick to tie, this
knot is far
superior to the
overhand knot, being both a little bulkier
yet far easier to untie even after a strain has been put
on the knot. It makes an ideal stopper and is used
universally by yachtsmen to prevent their ropes
pulling through blocks, eyebolts, and fairleads.
Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
1 Make a crossing turn with the working
end passing under the standing part of
the rope and then bring the working end
over the standing part.
2 Now tuck the working end up through the
loop from behind, forming a figure of
eight. Pull tight.
3 The finished knot.
