Orientation Handbook and Research Guide
Change of Program
As stated in the Graduate Catalog, a student who has a program of study approved by an advisor
may deviate from this program only with the written approval of the advisor and the Graduate Dean.
A student wishing to alter the program may obtain a Change of Program form from the Graduate
School Office.
Change of Grade
Whenever there is a need to change your grade for legitimate reasons (i.e., illness, mistakes in
scoring, etc.), your instructor must submit a Change of Grade form with the appropriate reason(s)
indicated as well as the proper signatures before the change can be populated in the system.
If the Change of Grade is for an Incomplete (I), the student must complete a Contract for an
Incomplete Grade (See Appendix A: Forms) and provide that to the instructor in order to proceed
through the grade changing process, if applicable.
Courses at Another Institution
A student admitted to the HRD graduate program who wishes to pursue a course(s) at another college
or university and to apply the credits towards the HRD at BSU must follow set guidelines.
Bowie State University offers two programs that are designed to enrich the college experience for
full-time undergraduate students.
Through the Inter-Institutional Registration Program, a full-time BSU student can attend any
University of Maryland System School and have the course work taken from the participating
school be counted as resident credit.
Bowie State University also offers the Permission to Enroll at Another Institution Program which
allows our students to attend both two and four year institutions and have the course work
transferred back to BSU.
Permission to Enroll at Another Institution Program
Participation in either program is voluntary. Students however, must be enrolled in Bowie State
University as a full-time student; students must obtain approval prior to taking any course; and
students must be in good academic standing.
See the Graduate Catalog for directions.
Course Extension
There may extenuating circumstances that prohibit or hinder a student from completing their degree
plan within the required seven (7) years. In those instances, the student must submit a Request for
Program Extension Form (see Appendix A: Forms). All supporting documentation must
accompany the completed form, which must include a signature from the Department Chairperson
as well as their recommendation for the length of the extension (i.e., 6-months, one (1) year, etc.).
