EDUC 562 DRUG ABUSE EDUCATION
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 3
This course is designed for the professional educator -- teacher,
counselor, and administrator -- and other professionals working with
school-age youth. The extent and recognition of the drug abuse
problem and recognition of the symptoms in an individual under the
influence of narcotics and drugs, with a view to involving the
professional on both a specific and a general action-oriented level are
stressed. The professional completing this course will have had the
opportunity to accumulate the knowledge and skills necessary to take
some reasonable action when confronted with the drug abuse problem
at various school age levels
EDUC 564 FIELD TRIPS IN AESTHETIC EDUCATION
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 3
Students explore aesthetic resources in and around the Washington,
D.C. area. Students become familiar with resources related to the fine
and performing arts and develop educational plans for incorporating
these resources into their aesthetic education curriculum. Students
apply their experiences to the age/grade level with which they are most
concerned.
EDUC 567 THE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 3
This course includes the philosophy and purposes of the middle school
and its organization and administration, the curriculum, and
appropriate methodologies. Similarities and contrasts to the junior high
school and other types of organization will be covered.
EDUC 568 INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 3
This course is designed to acquaint teachers with methods of
individualizing instruction at the elementary, junior high, and high
school levels. Primary emphasis will be on learning activity programs
and other methods. Students can expect to learn how to prepare,
implement, and evaluate individualized programs.
