The east-west axis around Taipei Station was originally a land where the railway route traversed.
Since the development of the “railway underground project“ in Taipei City and the co-construction
of the three railways, the region around the station has developed rapidly due to urbanization and
rapid development of mass transportation. Many parts of the surrounding land have turned into a
transportation hub for transit purposes.

The surrounding area of Taipei Station has transformed from a prosperous commercial area in the past
to the core of Taipei's important hub. There are many historical buildings and rich background stories
around it. It was not until 2015 that Mayor Ke restarted the grand transformation plan for the Taipei
West portal. The surrounding visual landscapes were reopened since. In addition to relieving the
traffic congestion in front of the station, it also integrated the surrounding lands. A large green space
where is capable of containing about 1,500 to 2,000 people was planned as a resting space for citizens
and passengers. This space can be used as a plaza of daily gatherings and communions, a large-scale
festivals venue and a friendly gateway space for Taipei.
