and a Plain Area in the Prosperous City

The Ping-shi Camp Region was the army camp and Jing-jhong
Ping-shi 3rd Village in the past, with total area of 42.2 hectares. After
the redesign of the land plan, it was planned that the west as
Central Park commercial area, the east as residential area, the south as cultural
and educational area, and the north as the transit station. In the
Tainan City center of the region is the park and green space used as the core
development area of creative cultural industry. The west side of the
region is the flourishing commercial district with Kuo-bing Movie
Theater, and the south-westside is the Dream Mall. Hence, the
central park, with total area of 7 hectares, has become a tranquil
corner in the bustling city. In addition to the role of ecological
oasis and flood detention space, the remained camp dormitories
further tell the camp’s history and the life stories of the residents
                                        in the veteran village.

Ping-shih Camp has planted a great number of arbors when the
troops were stationed here. Most of the arbors are eucalyptus and
mango trees. Also, there are a row of beautiful mahoganies in the
east side of the camp. In order to conserve the green space, the
design team has preserved 90% of the original plants, and merely
cutting the trees that are too close to one another. Moreover, to
make the residents lead an even healthier living, the over-hard
soils resulted from the troops’ long-term stamping upon the land
has been improved. Meanwhile, the arbors have also been planted
on the dormitories’ base, and the waste materials generated by
tearing down the dormitories were reused as the pitched stones of
the gutters and part of the pavement in the park.
