Arouse the Forgotten Corner of the City, and
Reproduce the Glory of the Waterway
Lon-En
Aqueducts Lon-En Aqueducts, which runs through the city of Hsinchu, has
a history of 300 years. The original clear water, in which could be
Landscape used to drink, play, fish, catch shrimp, bathe, wash clothes and
vegetables, has played an important role in the life of the Hsinchu
Hsinchu City residents. However, in the past 30 years, due to the increase of
urban architecture and population, in addition to irrigation and
drainage, Lon-En Aqueducts has become a stinking ditch in
Hsinchu City, which has lost its former glory.
After conducting the water quality survey, the municipal
government has promoted the water quality improvement project
to effectively improve the pollution in the middle and lower
reaches of Lon-En Aqueducts, "let the clear stream return to the
public life."
Practical and Aesthetic, A New Perspective to
Read the Environment
In the past, Lon-En Aqueducts divided the Sanmin Road in two,
as the city was cut with a knife. The connectivity between the left
and right sides of the river was quite low, and the living space of
the residents was broken and limited. Therefore, the design of the
"Floating Platform" was used to perfectly stitch the boundaries. In
order to preserve the large trees of Lon-En Aqueducts and avoid
obstructing the growth of the organisms, the high-rise method
was adopted. The above is used by pedestrians, so that people
can cross the waterfront, and provide bio-passage underneath.
It not only took into account the ecological environment, but
also transformed the closed blue-green belt system into an open
and pure traffic road, and became a living street where citizens
gather and carry out activities, increasing the chance of people
intertwining with the river. It is a comfortable space that could
be crossed or wandered in, and part of the daily life, which also
creates a brand new urban space.
