LEARNER EXPERIENCE
THE TRAINING & LEARNING COMPANY
THE APPRENTICESHIP STANDARDS
Apprenticeships offer an opportunity to learn in a real job to achieve nationally recognised work based qualifications. They
draw together the needs of employers for well trained staff and the needs of capable people for a rewarding and secure
career.
All Apprenticeships are delivered through a nationally recognised standard that is structured and accredited by the Institute
of Apprenticeships (IoA). The IoA, with the support of a trailblazer group of employers, are responsible for developing
national occupational standards that make up the qualification and are governed by Ofqual.
The Apprenticeship Standard defines the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for that occupational sector. Each
Standard is underpinned with an Assessment Plan, which details how the apprentice will be assessed.
Your employer will be required to release you from work in order to receive off-the-job training. This could be the
requirement to attend workshops in the form of a day release, or it could be training that takes place at your place of work
but away from the immediate requirements and pressures of your normal job role.
We will advise you and your employer about the off-the-job attendance requirements for your chosen apprenticeship, and
how this is documented for audit purposes.
Apprenticeship Standards can be quite different from each other. For example, some specify the achievement of mandatory
qualifications, whilst others do not require the achievement of formal qualifications. We will advise you on the requirements
for your particular apprenticeship.
