Tūtekohi was furious and he sent a message to his allies to organise a war party.
Lots of them arrived at Whenuanui and awaited instructions from Tūtekohi.

One battalion led by Wharo would attack the Ōkahukura village to lure the
enemy out. Another battalion led by Mahaki would stay at Whenuanui to protect

this village. Finally Tutekohi would hide in the bushes and wait in ambush.
