In another verse, Allah (SWT) said:

    “O ye who believe! Give of the good things which ye have
    (honourably) earned, and of the fruits of the earth which
    We have produced for you…”
                                   Al-Baqarah: Verse 267

    Therefore, the obligation to pay zakat is the responsibility
    of every Muslim when the required conditions have been
    met.


    Conditions Required for Zakat

    1.  Islam
       -  Applied on Muslims

    2.  Free People
       -  The Muslim individual must be fully independent
          and free. This condition is retained as one of the
          mandatory requirements.

    3.  Full Ownership
       -  The property must be fully owned and controlled by
           the person.
    4.  Meeting the Required Amount (Nisab)
       -  Nisab is the minimum level that determines whether
          a particular property is subject to zakat. It is equivalent
          to the current price of 85 grams of gold.

    5.  Meeting the Required Period (Haul)
       -  The property has been kept for a full year.
    6.  Intention of Business
       -  To earn profit (business zakat only)
