Based on the above case, analyze which measures are correctly or incorrectly spoken. Write C for the
correct expression and I for the incorrect expression.

                      Indwelling Catheter Care

Ensuring proper function of the catheter for effective urine drainage

Work in pairs and draft a dialogue between a nurse and a patient talking about the
preventive measures of some complications related to indwelling catheter care.

Pick ONE out of these complications:

                 1. Blockage or Obstruction
Blockages may be due to blood clots, urinary sediment, mucus buildup, or
                      crystallization within the catheter.
                      Prevention:
✓ Encourage adequate fluid intake to keep urine dilute and flowing.
✓ Flush the catheter as per facility protocol if the patient is prone to blockages.
✓ Maintain proper catheter hygiene to reduce sediment buildup.
✓ Monitor for early signs of blockage, like reduced urine flow, and
                          address them immediately.

                4. Catheter Displacement

Displacement can occur from accidental pulling, improper securing of the catheter,
or excessive movement of the patient.
                       Prevention:
✓ Secure the catheter with adhesive or straps to prevent movement.
✓ Educate patients and caregivers on avoiding tension or pulling on the catheter.
✓ Check and adjust the catheter regularly to ensure it remains in place.
✓ Encourage careful handling and positioning to avoid accidental dislodging.
