3. Skin Breakdown or Pressure Sores
Causes: Prolonged pressure from the catheter or tubing, especially in immobile
patients, can lead to skin irritation, breakdown, or pressure ulcers.
Prevention:
✓ Reposition the catheter and tubing regularly to reduce pressure on one area.
✓ Use protective padding where the catheter or tubing touches the skin.
✓ Keep the skin clean and dry around the catheter insertion site and drainage
area.
✓ Inspect the skin daily for signs of redness, irritation, or sores, and take prompt
action if any are observed.
