Why start a side project?

We are now living much longer than ever in the history
of mankind. This fact is mitigated further by the ever-
growing gig economy trend, which suggests we will
generally work for several companies during our
careers – no more working for one organisation for

decades like our previous generations. The lifespan of
larger companies (a company with more than 250
people) has also decreased, it has been reported in a
recent McKinsey study

The study found that back in 1958 the average lifespan
of the top US companies was 61 years and now it is less
than 18. McKinsey further believes that by 2027, only 25

percent of the companies currently listed will still be in
existence

Right now there are more SMEs than ever. According to
an article released by the United Nations, the
International Council for Small Business (MSMEs) Micro,
Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises registered and
