Firstly, in your country and then secondly anywhere
else in the world. Make sure you also include the image
tab in the search as your trademark might also have
been created already.
It could also be that somebody else has used the same
name but has not trademarked it.
Most countries allow you to apply for IP protection
online in the country where you are registered as a
resident.
Remember, you will pay for each class or business
segment you apply for protection for. This is dependent
on the segment or class of business you are applying for.
Also, remember that your protection will only be in place
for a certain number of years and will usually not apply
internationally but only in the country you register your
protection in.
Once again this is dependent on the type of IP and what
type of protection is being applied for. Each country in
the world should have a local Patent and Trademark
Office; in some countries even a WIPO office. Make this
your first port of call.
