Chayei Adam - K’lal 142 - The Order of the Tekiahs

these tekiahs since we only blow one [set of] tekiah-shevarim-teruah-tekiah, it
must be that we hold that either way, since we blow three types of teruahs, it is so
that we will fulfill the one which we are obligated to blow and the rest is
considered non-existent. If so, we are saying that it is possible that only tekiah-
teruah-tekiah or tekiah-shevarim-tekiah is correct and if we would blow shevarim-
teruah in a single breath, then there is no shevarim or teruah. Therefore, we blow
them in two breaths so that even if we are supposed to blow shevarim-teruah,
some say that even a shevarim-teruah can be separated by a breath.
Nevertheless, one should be careful not to pause for more than a breath. 59

]19[ After the end of davening, the custom is to blow another thirty blasts.
Some have the custom to blow [yet] another thirty blasts in order to complete
one hundred blasts. 60 Once one has finished blowing all the blasts of the shofar, it
is prohibited to blow any more blasts for no reason, because blowing [shofar] on

              60. See above (note 51, first paragraph) rules in line with the custom of the Rema (that

He also writes that the shofar is sounded mandates blowing another set of thirty,
