RESIDENT SAFETY
POLICY
It is the policy of Hopess to encourage resident’s active involvement in their own care as a
safety strategy. The purpose of this policy is to define and set forth the means for residents
and their families to report concerns about safety and encourage them to do so. This policy
applies to residents’ and their families, and any staff working with residents.
PROCEDURE
Residents and families will be encouraged to participate in their treatment as
much as possible. The residents and their family will be encouraged by their
treatment team to participate in their treatment, attend activities, ask questions
and observe posted schedules. The resident and their family are encouraged to
report any concerns they may have about their safety and the safety of others
immediately to staff.
The assigned therapist will provide a safety orientation for the resident
during his or her assessment of each new resident. This will include
information about their participation in their own treatment, care and safety,
in general.
Who to contact in case of a crisis, psychiatric emergency, or if injured is
reviewed. Residents will be given a safety orientation on ways to prevent
injury on the premise as well as appropriate self-care. Environmental items
that could pose any risk of harm will be covered with the resident.
Residents who do not have current or active dto/dts will have written on
their treatment plan that they do not need to be in a facility where mirrors
are acrylic or covered with film – if the facility they are in have mirrors not
already covered with film.
Residents will not be permitted to keep any hygiene items that contain
alcohol in the first 3 ingredients and razors must be locked up together in
the resident’s hygiene box. Hygiene items can be checked out to residents
at the discretion of staff. Residents who are dto/dts will not be permitted to
shave.
