Connections to Family and Community History

isits to Guelph were a significant part of my childhood. I stayed with JM and Nellie in their duplex, surrounded by
Vtheir expansive garden and bustling canning operations. Our trips to Inverary, Ontario, brought me closer to my
family’s roots, especially the Ferguson homestead, a cherished piece of our family’s legacy. Family trips to places like
Grasshopper Hill and the Ferguson farm are still vivid in my memory. Grasshopper Hill was central to the Truscott lineage,
and the stone buildings my family helped build in Sydenham, Ontario, remain a testament to their contributions. On a
recent (2024) visit to Bermuda I was able to see the home where JM was born, Pembroke Sunday School, and see some of
the cousins whose lineage goes back to Robert Garrett Card, my great, great, great grandfather. My wife, Helen, and I had a

visit to Wedgeport, Nova Scotia and were able to find much evidence to the Pothier family heritage. Interestingly, all of the
houses that I recall living in still exist to this day (2025.)
