When exchanging messages within the same call, the call sign may be omitted.

Only when the ground station has shortened the call sign may the aircraft use

the shortened form.

An aircraft of the category “HEAVY” must add “HEAVY” to the call sign when

making the first call. For example “STERLING 543 HEAVY”.

You may use the aircraft type in the call sign, e.g. “Cessna OY-TLA”. The
abbreviation for this call sign is as stated above. Cessna LA or Cessna TLA.

Ultralight aircraft have the call sign OY-xxxx (number) e.g.: OY-9308

If there is a possibility of confusion with other aircraft, the full call sign is used.

The full call sign is also used in distress and urgency messages and messages

regarding radio failure.

The full call sign must be used:

- for initial take-off

- if there is a possibility of confusion with other aircraft
- for distress and urgency messages

- messages regarding radio failure

4.3.2 Numbers and groups of numbers

Numbers and groups of numbers are sent in the same way as they are

pronounced in ordinary speech.

In English, numbers and groups of numbers are transmitted by pronouncing each
digit individually, unless otherwise stated below.

- All numbers and groups of numbers indicating altitude, cloud height,

visibility, runway visual range and altimeter setting containing whole
hundreds and whole thousands shall be transmitted by mentioning each

digit of the hundred or of the thousand followed by the word HUNDRED or

THOUSAND.
