the disciples received ‘authority’ from Jesus. This authority

can drive out demons, pick up snakes, and not be harmed
by deadly poi-son, and heal sick people. Let us examine the

scene where Jesus gives the authority to his disci-ples.

“When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them
power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure

diseases” (Luke 9:1)

Jesus gave the 12 disciples the authority and powers in
driving out demons and in healing the sick. And in reality,

the 12 disciples did drive out demons and heal the sick. Yes,
the 70 other disciples did receive the same authority. And

upon the completion of their ministry, they returned to Jesus
and reported in these words.

“The seventy returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the

demons submit to us in your name.” (Luke 10:17)

Jesus said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes
and scorpions and to over-come all the power of the enemy;

nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:19). Jesus gave the same
au-thority to both the 12 and the 70 disciples.
