Communication on the Job
“Man does not live by GNP alone.”
-Paul A. Samuelson
Each of the rules we have discussed apply just as effectively whether
you’re attempting to engage in positive communication at home, or in
groups. By utilizing a little thoughtfulness, we can become more effective
communicators in any of these environments.
On the job, however, there are a few additional pointers which might
improve relationships. These deal with specific uses of credit, thanks, and
praise.
A sure way to communicate well with anyone is to give proper credit to the
other person. As idea, a solution to a problem, a great meal, a good
conversation, anything!
Unfortunately, especially in business communication, the competition for
recognition is so fierce that most individuals want to grab all the glory they
can for themselves. In addition to being self-destructive, it does nothing to
foster good relations with other people.
