ix Don’t Make Me Say I Told You So

Money is time. With money I buy for cheerful
use the hours which otherwise would not in

any sense be mine; nay, which would make me
                                their miserable bondsman.

–George Gissing, The Private Papers of Henry Ryecroft (1903)

If you would like to pursue your dreams in retirement, you
will need to have the time and money to do that. If you have

to worry about running out of money in retirement, there will
be things that you would like to pursue but won’t, for fear of

exacerbating the problem. Even if you have the time to pursue
your passions, most activities have some financial cost. Many

retirees will not have the time. They will be forced to go back to
work to make ends meet, and will not have the free time to do

the things they’ve waited all of their lives to do.
