                                  operative care is similar to that following open surgery, with fluids and
                                  postoperative analgesics, antibiotics and dietary modification.


                 Feeding-tube placement
                                  Animals may be fed enterally through a tube placed in the oesophagus,
                                  the stomach or intestine. The choice of tube type depends on the disease
                                  state, anticipated length of time the tube will be used and whether the
                                  animal  will  remain  hospitalised  or  will  need  to  be  fed  at  home.  The
                                  intestinal  feeding  tubes  are  best  utilised  for  hospital  feeding  using  a
