(John 8:26-27) – The Pharisees are mistaken if they thought the Messiah has nothing else to say
against them. He informs them that there are more judgments He is prepared to speak against
them because He has been sent to bring light to the truth. He will speak the truth openly for
the world to hear it allowing the public to witness the response of the religious leaders to the
truth He speaks.
When Moses first presented himself to the Hebrews as their deliverer, they questioned His
credentials, not fully accepting that he was sent to them by God. (Ex. 5;19-23) The Jews that
descended from the ancestral Hebrews did not understand that the Jesus was speaking of the
Father, as the God of the Jews that sent Him to be a deliverer to them.
John 8:28- Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of
man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but
as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
John 8:29- And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me
alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:30- As he spake these words, many believed on him.
Lesson Notes:
(John 8:28) – The Messiah begins to speak prophetically to the Pharisees and the audience in
the treasury courtyard. He forecast the impacting results of His crucifixion, revealing that after
He is lifted up as an innocent sacrifice people will know the truth about His identity. They will
understand that He did not speak for Himself but every word He taught was given to Him by the
Father (God actively present in Heaven), the God of the Jews.
(John 8:29-30) – After His death and resurrection they will know that He was sent by the God of
the Jews (the Father) who was pleased with everything He accomplished. They would know
that He was not alone or an independent witness, but that He and the Father (God actively present
in Heaven) were a greater witness in Heaven than the witness of men in the earth.
After the prophetic announcement there were some that believed His words. The mission of
making the journey on the second day of the Great Feast was filled with great risk but not
without great reward.
