                                    PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS:


                                    Pursuit of sustainability is an objective that all

                                    tourism  destinations  would  identify  with,  but


                                    the extent to which the ground reality matches

                                    the stated objective varies from destination to


                                    destination.  How  do  we  ensure  that  tourism

                                    related development at destinations adheres to


                                    principles of sustainability? La Lopa and Day

                                    (2011)  in  their  pilot  study  on  ‗readiness‘  for


                                    change towards sustainable business practices

                                    in  Wales,  recognize  that  moving  away  from


                                    traditional      tourism       practices       to     more

                                    sustainable options is both complex as well as

                                    challenging.  A  transition  to  sustainable


                                    practices needs a change agent. Typically for

                                    most  destinations,  this  responsibility  falls  in


                                    the lap of the ‗national tourism authorities‘ or

                                    the ‗destination management organizations.‘
