DECADE: 1970s
For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to fibers more than any other media.
Learning how to sew on my mother's sewing machine as a 6-year-old started me out on
this voyage of no return.
Sewing is an obsession that has never abated. I have enjoyed it in its many forms, but
particularly, my love of quilting set me on a path in my work that I've never grown tired
of. I've quilted with commercial fabrics, my own hand-dyed and printed fabrics as well as
used tea bags. There isn't anything I won't attempt when it comes to quilting.
The pieces submitted started out as experimental. The wool was felted years ago and
had been made into several different art pieces. This is the 3rd and final generation for
these materials. As I was putting together the small bits into an art quilt and jacket, I
realized how I had been reminiscing about my teenage years, due to the fact that the
colors and patterns of the pieces reflect the fashion of the times.
