Sound of New England Chorus
SONE has been busy, busy, busy since contest in May, singing and enjoying the summer.
We kicked off the summer with a patriotic performance, entertaining a large audience for East Hartford's
Memorial Day celebration at the high school, sharing the stage with Congressman John Larson and
representatives of the armed services.
We have welcomed new singers through our "Summer Singsation" nights. Guest singers work through a
rep song with us and learn it as we polish it. They may then sing it with us in our Blue Back Square
concerts on the fourth Tuesday of the summer months. The little courtyard area becomes our stage for
these fun, informal performances. We have had small children dancing as we sing, adding to the
entertainment.
In July many of us gathered at the home of Carolyn Godfrey for a delightful pot-luck and pool party. The
weather was perfect, and we always love getting together just to socialize.
We have two public events in August: singing before the New Britain Bees baseball game (our first with
the Bees), and a big concert with the Silk City Chorus at the Manchester Band Shell. We have done this
several times before, and it's a wonderful evening with the audience on the lawn under the stars.
All of these summer performances are just previews of our big show on November 4th, Music, Magic &
Mayhem! We will be featuring Region 1 quartet champions, Boston Accent, and magician David
Corsaro, a professional magician for over 25 years and a featured performer at "Monday Night Magic",
New York City's longest running off-Broadway magic show. Our show will be at 7pm at the Mandell
JCC of Greater Hartford, 335 Bloomfield Ave. West Hartford, CT. We will have five fabulous raffle
baskets to embellish off this evening of fabulous entertainment. We hope to see many of you there!
