FIRSTHAND INFORMATION
Truth to Teach (Source)
Job 12:12 ‘Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring
understanding?’
¾ People who experienced something firsthand are a valuable source of information,
when trying to find out about the past. (Visiting speaker)
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the first lesson. Recall in what ways Jesus remains the same, eg his
Spirit is always the same. The truth of his Word never changes.
2. When we come to find out about the past, there is a problem in that we were
not there to see things for ourselves.
Tell an up-to-date story to illustrate the difference between firsthand information
and second or third-hand information:
Jane comes into the classroom at lunch-time and says, “Paul has found a baby bird
in the playground.”
The teacher asks, “Did you see it? Is it injured?”
“I don’t know,” replies Jane. “Helen told me about it.”
What do you think the teacher needs to do? (She needs to talk to Paul, and
get the story of what happened from him. She needs to get some firsthand
information.)
3. Today we have a visitor who was there in the past when none of us were on the
earth! Introduce the visitor, and explain that she is going to give us some firsthand
information about her childhood.
4. The following are a sample of the questions which could be drawn from the children
before the lesson.
What year were you born in?
What was your house like?
