The disciples experienced that kind of first-hand knowledge of Jesus on the earth,
and it is certainly better than just looking at drawings of him. Interestingly, God
chose to send his Son to earth at a time when there were no cameras, or televisions,

or tape recorders. (I wonder why?!)

            2. Yet, there is a film called ‘Jesus of Nazareth’. Is it the real Jesus in that film? The
people are all actors and actresses, acting out their parts, and they have made

everything look like what it was like in the first century. (eg clothes, houses,
                 transport, etc.)

            3. We say the film crews have reconstructed the past. They have built the setting

where all the action in the film can take place.

            4. Many museums have reconstructed the past as well. The people at Cogges Farm
Museum have reconstructed the past, so that when you enter the museum it is like

entering a farm-yard a hundred years ago. You will see old farm machinery, old
buildings, and even the sorts of animals which would have been in a farmyard at that
time. The people who work at the museum wear costumes, showing you what the
                 servants would have worn then.

Why do you think the museum has gone to all this trouble? Couldn’t they just have
set out old objects on tables and written a label by each one, like what we did in our
museum? Why bother to reconstruct the past?

            5. So that is why we are going to visit Cogges Farm Museum, so that we can
experience more of what it was like to have lived on a farm a hundred years ago.

            6. Background Information

x People have lived on the land where the farm is for more than a thousand
years. The Manor House is interesting because it has not always looked
like it does now. Like any house, it has been extended and changed over

the years. The kitchen is the oldest part of the house – over 700 years
old - and the door leading into it from outside is 500 years old! When
you look at the house from the walled garden, history detectives will be
able to spot where some changes have been made.

x Today the manor house looks like it would have done 100 years ago. That
is when the Mawle family lived there, with their servants. You will be able
to look around their house, and look for things that have changed since

then. Look at what things are made of, and try and find out how they
