MATERIALS THAT CONDUCT ELECTRICITY
Week 3
Truth to Teach (Source)
The Holy Spirit works through people, who are willing and expectant. In a similar way metals allow
electricity to flow through them, while other materials do not.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Read a story such as Peter and John and the lame man. (Acts 3:1-12+16) How did
God’s power come to the lame man? Through Peter and John. They were willing and
had faith that God could heal the lame man through them. They welcomed God’s power
working through them. What about you? Are you willing for God to use you? Do you
believe that He wants to work through you? Are you keeping in touch with the Holy
Spirit, and not ‘switching off’?!
2. Today we want to look at two different kinds of materials: ones which allow electricity
to pass through - (It’s like they say, “Yes!”) – and ones which stand against the flow of
power – (It’s like they say, “No!”). Can we think of a list of different materials? List
these on the board.
Now how can we design a test to see if they allow electricity to pass through?
Consider and shape their suggestions.
3. Give children an opportunity to predict what will happen. Then allow them to test their
predictions, and to record what actually happened. The spaces are for the children to
test other materials/objects.
Is there a pattern for our results? (Only metals let electricity flow through them.)
4. Scientists have been able to use this discovery to keep people safe. When you look at
a lead, what do you see? (Plastic or rubber, the wires being inside, so that they do not get
damaged, and so that people do not get electric shocks.)
So in fact all materials have their different uses, although in thinking about ourselves
once again, I want to be a carrier of God’s power. What about you?
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. For the children to learn that metals let electricity pass through them.
2. For the children to have an opportunity to design a fair test.
