PLANT REPRODUCTION

This lesson may need two sessions.

        Truth to Teach (Source)

Genesis 1:11-13 God created plants on day three.

Matthew 6:28-30 God displays his faithfulness by ensuring that plants grow in season, year after
                              year.

 To review the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed production, seed
               dispersal and germination

 To learn the parts and function of a flowering plant

 To discover how seeds are dispersed

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Review the previous lessons.

            2. Discuss the Bible verse above.

            3. By question and answer, establish how much the children remember of lesson 4. Let them try

to fill in the labels of a cross section of a flowering plant on the board.

Petal, sepal, ovary, style, anther, filament, stamen, carpel, stigma

            4. Talk about the function of each part.

Male parts: filament that holds the anther that produces the pollen
Female parts: carpel that is made up of the stigma that releases pollen grains. Style
that is a narrow tube and the ovary that contains the egg cell.

            5. Review the function of the roots, stems, petals, sepals and leaves.

6 Pass around a selection of seeds, reminding the children of the amazing potential God has
placed in a seed. We, as humans, began as a 0.2 mm cell!

            7. Draw a life cycle of a plant.
