MOVEMENT
Truth to Teach (Source)
Acts 17:28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’
God has ordained that man should work and rule over his creation but to do this movement is
necessary.
To appreciate that animals of all kinds move differently to find food, to escape from enemies,
etc.
To learn that humans have skeletons and muscles to support their bodies and help them to
move.
To learn about the different joints in our bodies.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lessons.
2. Start the lessons by giving keep fit exercises for the children to do together.
3. Let the children share why they think our bodies can perform so many movements.
4. Show pictures or a plastic model of a human skeleton. Talk about the two main joints – ball
and socket, hinge. Talk about the different parts and how it works.
5. Let the children make cardboard models of these.
Hinge joint: Cut two strips of card 5 cm x 20 cm to represent bones. Make holes in one end
of each and use a split pin to join them together. Use string as muscles to pull the end of the
joint to make it work. Give the children the challenge of doing this. This is how the elbow and
knee joints work.
