7.5 Dependant Breastfeeding Infants

Official duty travel for female staff members with dependant breastfed infants will be
considered by the Secretary General, with due consideration for the need to strike a balance between
personal/family life and professional responsibilities of the staff member, drawing from the advice of
                   the staff member concerned.

The staff member concerned must indicate her intention to bring her dependant infant with her on
official duty travel when seeking travel approval. Where such travel is actually approved:

o GNOC will meet the accompanying 10% economy air travel costs of the dependant
                              breastfed infant;
o All other responsibilities for the dependant infant will be borne by the staff member (e.g.
                              insurance, per diems, etc).

                   7.6 Class of Travel

                       • The principle that this Organization supports in relation to travel is that Office
                         funds will be expended prudently.

                       • All airline travel undertaken by Office staff in the course of their duty is to be
economy class travel or its equivalent unless a higher class of travel has been provided by a
funding agency; or approved by the Secretary General or President.

                       • In general, it is expected that employees who travel across 4 time zones will require a
24-hour recovery period at the destination. Where this is not possible, such employees may take
a one-night stopover en-route and on return, depending on the duration of the flights and travel
                         time.

While on a stopover, standard per diem rates will apply.

                       • If a higher class of travel has not been approved and a staff member prefers to travel in a
higher class flights they may pay the additional costs, utilize frequent flyer points and/or use
                          airline upgrades.

                   7.7 Air Routes
                       • The most economical route available in time, cost and the travellers’ work life balance
requirements should be taken into consideration.

                       • Where all three cannot be satisfied work life balance will be the priority.

7.8 Road Transport and Marine Transport

                       • Staff members must include on Travel Plans use of road and/or marine transport that
will incur a cost to the Organization.

                       • Where charges are not prepaid, approved use of these modes of transport are
reimbursable and subject to a reasonableness test.

                       • All claims for reimbursements must be attached to the GNOC Claim Form (Please refer
Appendix E - a soft copy of this form is available from the GNOC Drop Box)
