create value and even what it means to be human. The Fourth Industrial Revolution
is about more than just technology-driven change; it is an opportunity to help
everyone, including leaders, policy-makers and people from all income groups and
nations, to harness converging technologies in order to create an inclusive, human-
centred future. The real opportunity is to look beyond technology, and find ways
to give the greatest number of people the ability to positively impact their families,
organisations and communities.
3. Relationship between cultural industry and the Fourth Industrial
Revolution
The culture of mankind has been shared, blended together, forgotten,
newly created, and handed down. Through the several industrial upheavals — the
first industrial revolution represented by mechanical production and steam engines,
the second industrial revolution represented by mass production and electrical
energy, and the third industrial revolution represented by the Internet and IT —
human culture has been changed on a worldwide scale and led humans to enjoy
a new form of lives. The advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is based
on future technologies including artificial intelligence, robotics and big data, will
bring hyper-connectivity and super-intelligence in human lives.
The example of the third industrial revolution gave us an insight to understand and
expect the consequences of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Third Industrial
Revolution, represented by Internet technology and IT, led to a shift from traditional
media to new media. The Internet and advanced digital technologies allowed the
media to be linked and combined freely regardless of time and space. Today, the
majority of people became able to establish their own culture and learn new
cultures through the media. People can share and understand each other's culture
in real time, and develop their own culture in the platform of social media. To sum
up, the impact of the third industrial revolution on culture was the convergence
between media. Then, how will the Fourth Industrial Revolution influence culture?
