The results of the survey were similar to our expectations. We can see that the
Fourth Industrial revolution is well known to many people generally but still some
of them do not know about it. The last question shows that most students prefer
watching Youtube followed by Netflix among popular cultures. As expected, most
of the students preferred popular culture to high culture.
On the other hand, all the adults who were asked about the interview questions
said that they were aware of the 4 out of 7 adults said that they prefer high culture
to popular culture. The activities they most enjoyed were pop music and Youtube.
We can see that popular culture such as Youtube is not only used by young
generations but also older generations today. Through this interview, we also
learnt that the older generation thinks that this might benefit our lives in the future.
7. Discussion
According to a survey our team conducted for this research, 90 percent of
respondents said they preferred pop culture to high culture. High culture refers to
a culture that has pure artistic content based on the upper classes of society, such
as opera, art museum, and classical music. On the other hand, Popular culture refers
to a culture that can be enjoyed comfortably by all the public regardless of class,
such as pop songs or movies. (Of course, there has been a lot of controversy over
dividing culture into high and low levels, but we will use this expression for
convenience.) The biggest reason why popular culture is more popular than high
culture is because of its prevalence and high accessibility to the public, but the fact
that the accessibility of high culture can be increased as time goes by it can’t be
ignored. Therefore, cultural change from the industrial revolution is usually based
on the representative new technology of that period.
