Over time, the cultural industry and culture are influenced by representative novel
technologies of that certain period. Human beings have developed various kinds
of technologies for their convenient lives, and the newly developed technologies
ultimately changed human cultures. The culture that people pursue has changed
from high culture to popular culture. Revolutionary technologies are not only being
used at the level of experts, but also at the level of ordinary people.
The impact of technology on culture in the era of the fourth industrial revolution
can be summarized in two ways. Based on the ‘indeterminate theory’ of the Fourth
Industrial Revolution, the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution seemed
to only affect the promotion of cultural content, and that cultural contents would
not be able to be changed. However, after studying various cultural projects such
as video, games, printing, and new media, the new technologies of the Fourth
Industrial Revolution were able to bring about both changes in cultural content
and roles as promotional tools.
For the movie, Netflix promoted the movie through new technologies such as Big
Data. In addition, the broadcasting industry showed changes in contents such as
five senses experience-type contents through eXtended reality (XR) technology. In
the case of games, the content has changed due to the spread of streaming, and
in the case of printing, various printing techniques such as 3D printing, and creative
contents combining AI and human power have become possible. In addition, with
the advent of new media, communication with closer people has become possible
and contents have changed in various ways.
In conclusion, in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the task of the cultural
industry is to bring the advantages of the fourth industrial revolution technologies
to the fullest, changing cultural contents more colorfully and promoting them more
effectively.
