TOURNAMENT
The opening evening’s bowls drive was won Ann
Ward, Judith Sawyer, Ted King & Terry Goodhind with
a plus of 16 shots, although they had plus 20 until their
last game.
The two-bowls singles was as usual hotly con-
tested. At the quarter final stage Dave Sawyer edged
out Yvonne Knight 7 - 6, whilst Stewart Howe had an
easier time against Bob Stock, romping home 8 -
1.John Horsham also won 8 - 1 over Mary Wyatt
Completing the semi-final line-up, Mike Blackmore
Singles finalist John Horsham beat Ann Ward 8 - 3. In his semi-final game Mike led
and winner Mike Blackmore 7 - 6 over Dave Sawyer going into the last end and
Mike then took a single for an 8 - 6 win. In the other
semi John Horsham and Stewart Howe were 7 all going into the last end but a two to John gave
him a 9 - 7 win. The final was a repeat at 7 all but Mike Blackmore took the vital single that
gave an 8 - 7 final victory.
In the Triples quarter finals, John Buckle,
Rosemary & Ted King edged through 5 - 3 over
Ann Jenkins, Terry & Karen Goodhind with
every end being a single. Vera Smith, Mary
Wyatt & Julian Bradbury had a surprise and
stunning result 12 - 1 over Mike Blackmore,
Kath & John Downs.
John Horsham, Anne Ward & Fred Har-
land finished off with a two for a 9 - 6 win over
Norman Davies, Stewart & Joyce Howe. Com-
pleting the round Kath Curtis, Marion & Nor-
man Beeden beat Yvonne Knight, Judith &
Dave Sawyer. In their semi-final Kath, Marion
& Norman were on the receiving end going Seated Triples winners Vera Smith, Julian
down 1 - 9 to Horsham, Ward & Harland.

Surprise trio Vera Smith Mary Wyatt & Julian
Bradbury continued on their merry way with an 11 - 3
result over John Buckle Rosemary & Ted King. They
kept up this good form to lead 6 - 1 at one point in the
final and despite being pegged back by John, Anne &
Fred they duly won 7 - 5.
In the Pairs semi’s Judith & David Sawyer had a
comfortable win over Margaret & Bob Stock, whilst
Lucy & Dave brown won a high scoring game by 12 -
7 over Rosemary & Ted King.
In the final, Judith & David were in a determined
mood and led by 6 - 2 after six ends but a three to
Lucy & Dave brought them back into the match at 5 -
6 but a single and then a three to Judith & David
Seated Pairs winners Judith & closed of the match and gave them 10 - 5 tournament
David Sawyer with finalist win.
Dave & Lucy Brown
