Parents and Supporters
The purpose of the Pan American Maccabi Games is to compete in sport.
These Games are unique, in that full supporters are part of the Australian Team and are bound by all
MAI policies and bylaws. Athletes and full supporters are accommodated in the same hotel, eat in
the same dining halls, and share transport. Full supporters are also included in all Australian Team
functions and social events. This close relationship can be a little challenging, and to overcome
these challenges, please:
• Advise Managers of your daily plans
• Follow all direction given by team management.
• Always keep your mobile phone on
• Respect the space of the athlete and the team you are supporting- It is at the discretion of
team management whether supporters are invited to join the team for breakfast, travel on
the same transport to and from matches, join the team for team briefs etc.
• Athletes may only leave the team with the permission of their team manager (or DGM if
there is no team manager) and adhere to all curfews.
• Give junior athletes their space.
• Do not enter the rooms of all athletes. Please respect everyone’s privacy.
• Follow all security guidelines.
• Be punctual when travelling with the team.
• Wear your Australian supporter gear to the opening ceremony – do not exchange it at this
event as we need to identify you on departure from the venue. There will be an opportunity
to swap at Games Venues and the closing ceremony.
Money and Credit Cards
• Use your room safe to store valuables, passports, and air tickets.
• Juniors will hand air tickets and passports to their team manager for safekeeping.
• Avoid wearing jewellery, carrying a handbag, or wearing waist bags, as these are invitations
to pick-pockets.
• Carry only one credit card when you leave the hotel.
• Use approved money changers, ATM located at the hotel or at a bank.
• Do not change money on the street.
Team Curfew and Safety Reporting Procedure
All team managers are to report the whereabouts and movements of all team members to the Head
of Safety and Security Manager. The Head of Safety and Security will inform the General Manager
that all team members are accounted for.
• By midnight (12:00AM) or earlier every night, all team managers must report to Head of
Safety and Security that all members of their team are accounted for and back at the hotel.
This will apply to all nights, including Shabbat.
